We are looking for an experienced designer to work alongside our Art Director to lead the design of new, fun and exciting products, packaging, ranges and brands for a growing list within the Toy and Arts & Crafts arena.

Purpose of the Role

In conjunction with the Art Director to lead the design of new , fun and exciting products, packaging, ranges and brands for a growing list within the Toy and Arts & Crafts arena.  Managing all aspects of the design from concept through to final files, and overseeing the creative output of the designated team. Working closely with the Art Director to develop technical and creative design skills throughout the team., and introduce new ways of working where required.  Liaising with relevant external resources, from designers to manufacturers as necessary.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage creative design work on product ranges including briefing, approvals, schedules and quality control from concept to final product
  • Create strong, dynamic, commercially sound design that is appropriate to the brand, format, target market and end user
  • Design compelling packaging, concept visuals and marketing visuals
  • Identify potential new designers, illustrators, agencies, studios and other freelance contributors and review talent pool to ensure best people are being used
  • Monitor own project schedules and that of the Toy/Arts & Crafts Team, ensuring they meet key dates
  • Put forward ideas and suggestions for the smooth running of the team, and ask for help and input when needed
  • Ensure designs are produced to a high standard and error-free
  • Create and maintain all files inline with in-house set-up guidelines
  • Commission content and brief freelancers in conjunction with Art Director
  • Provide quality marketing materials in accordance with the Critical Date Path
  • Suggest commercial ideas for new product ideas and concepts, providing a strong commercial and creative rationale
  • Contribute ideas for new and/or improved processes and team development
  • Keep Studio Manager up to date with schedule changes and flag up late file delivery
  • Liaise with Development Teams regarding technical or safety requirements, up-front testing and other safety issues.
  • Establish and maintain an awareness of children’s products, media and marketing. Also engage with relevant sales and marketing reports
  • Identify key trends in global Children’s market and share these with the team and encourage sharing of trends/ideas.
  • Knowledge and understanding of production and manufacturing processes

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a design role within the children’s sector
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite for print and relevant product design programs
  • Conscientious, self-motivated and pro-active, with a passion for design
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Exceptional organisation skills and fully able to work within project timelines and ensure all key deadlines are met
  • Experience of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
