About the role
We are looking for a Studio Manager with a passion for the creative industries, with an understanding of the complex ecosystem of freelancers, micro-businesses, and SMEs who work at the cutting edge of the creative use of technology. This permanent role will guide The Studio from its now well-established position in the creative ecology of Bath toward an even stronger presence in the social enterprise and civic engagement offer that Bath Spa University brings to the region, while continuing to develop and amplify The Studio’s offer to students and academics.
The Studio is Bath Spa University’s dedicated town centre space for enterprise and innovation, located at 10 Palace Yard Mews. After a soft launch opening in autumn 2019, The Studio weathered the pandemic, and has gone on to become a cornerstone of the University’s social enterprise and creative technology strategy. Through its multiple programmes, including its offer to Studio Residents as well as the wider community, the Studio is an important supporter of creative industries business development in the Bath and Bristol city region, a highly visible part of the University’s increasingly significant role in civic engagement.
This role is based at The Studio, 10 Palace Yard Mews, in the centre of Bath. The Studio Manager is required to work on site at least four days per week.
About you (requirements)
The role of Studio Manager will suit a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset. The Studio Manager manages both the physical space of the building as well as the people in it, developing and supporting the community. While the Studio Manager liaises between University departments, like Estates and IT, as well as engaging students though both course development, module delivery, and student placements, the role is primarily outward-facing, growing the community of creative technology micro-businesses and SMEs, while connecting with funders, policy-makers, and the business development community.
You will have experience in managing a studio, lab, building, gallery, office or equivalent within either Higher Education or Creative Industries sectors, significant professional experience in the commercial, public and/or creative sectors, or a proven track record in project management with appropriate expertise in areas relevant to the University’s disciplinary range.

Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.
